Been in sasebo for about a week and I have to say best meal I've had while in here so far. Had some type of soup, fruit salad, the steak, desert and coffee lol can't beat that. Everything was awesome. It is a small place but well worth eating there.

Small but homey. The steak was magnificent and was soft, juicy, and delicious. I felt as though, it melted in my mouth. The service is nice and the staff speak English. It has a nice reputation and lives up to its name.

Food was very good. Watching the chef and his wife cook as we ate was amazing. Definite language barrier prevented me from ordering more food. This place is YEN only and no credit card.

Amazing, world-class food in a cozy yet sophisticated Mom and Pop atmosphere. Very limited seating, get there early, an watch a consummate master chef prepare your meal right in front. No staff, just the owner and his gracious wife. I had the full-course French meal. Perfection. Perfectly executed courses, showing such a level of professional skill. Nicely done fruit, lettuce, and steak salad. Incredible soup, with coarsely ground black pepper for perfect seasoning. Prawn and scallop seafood, Kobe beef tenderloin, grilled peppers, haricots vert on a piping hot plate with the chef’s signature red wine sauce. Nice dessert combo of custard and ice cream.If you are a foodie and appreciate the personal skill and dedication of a lifelong master chef, come to Sasebo. It’s worth it. While you’re here spend an extra night and dine at the nearby Antica Osteria del Mare for some old world Italian. Sasebo is a great place for cuisine.

Best steak restaurant in Sasebo. Great service and food. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for.

Update 2-4-19: Finally got back to have a meal here and was very satisfied with the service and the steak. Quite possibly the most tender steak I've ever had. Price includes a small salad, main course, dessert, and coffee. I would revisit this restaurant and recommend to folks coming from out of town.Was really forward to this Sasebo institution. Got there at opening time and waiting 10 mins past opening time without opening. No sign on the door saying they're closed. We walked back past having dinner at another restaurant and still not open. Pretty disappointed.

Great place to eat

I have been to the Steak Salon several times over a several year period. I eat there at least one time every time I am in Sasebo. If this restaurant was near my home I would definitely be a regular customer. Everything on the menu is a complete meal. Today's had a salad with fresh fruit, squash soup, the garlic steak, potato, and green beans, a sherbet for desert and a cup of coffee all for 2,500 Yen. I also had a 1.0 liter beer for 600 Yen so my total was 3,300 Yen or $31.00.They prefer cash and will also take U.S. dollars at the present exchange rate.Try it if you are in town. You will not be disappointed.Visited July 2016

This is my first time to Sasebo!I am so surprise that it is delicious and the price is not expensive!

Made a reservation on a recommendation. Quaint and comfortable but small. Mom and Pop owned and run. I had the lemon steak. It was prepared and cooked perfectly. Set consisted of a salad, corn soup and ice cream.

Holy oh my Jesus, lives up to the reputation. Great steak, great everything! Even the soup was a step above.

Not bad but not great either though I'm sure the longer I stay away from home the more I will appreciate this place. Also, if you're a gaijin that likes rice like me, you only get a very small amount with your meal.

Best full course meal in Sasebo, I would say it is on the pricy side, if it were not for the fact it is worth every yen. The salad to start was unreal, and I am not a salad person. Fresh fuits and vegitables with, and ,from what I saw, two different dressings lightly spread across the top. The steak was prepared in front of us, and I mean prepared, cut, weighed, seasoned and grilled. The shop is run by two people, one being the master chef and the other the waitress/suchef. Make sure you get there right when they open or earlier, the majority of the seats are reservation only, only 6 for walk-ins. The place is small, but it feels like you are a guest at their house. It kind of felt like being at home, if my relatives were top teir chefs.

Don't believe the hype! Honestly wanted to like this place but its just a regular piece of steak pan fried, with some sauce on it. Its nothing unique or interesting, and the quality of the meat is not high either. Best part of the meal was the salad served at the start. Me and a friend ordered a garlic and lemon steak respectively, only to realise after watching the man cook it that it was basically the exact same thing with different garnishes put on it! Despite this we have to say that the couple running it are super warm and friendly, and the prices are not high. But I certainly would not give this place a high recommendation.

For a Japanese establishment, they have terrible service. The food is nothing above average and the price is typical of what you'd expect in Japan. Do yourself a favor, go find a restaurant that doesn't cater to foreigners.

Superb sasebo cuisine. About as good as it gets out here. Classically trained chef using fresh ingredients to create French inspired dishes. Not cheap, but we're talking about some of the most tender steak anywhere. Follows the standard Japanese take on steak with more thin slices than you would expect in the US. Though the flavor of the meat he uses is good it is the sauces and the tenderness of the meat where this chef excels. Coursed meals are a pleasure from beginning to end. The salad is a treasure in itself. Never had anything like it. Remember to compliment the chef and his wife by saying "oishii" when you pay.

Amazing food at Steak Salon. They have 10 seats available at the counter and 1 table that can seat 4. The table is available by reservation. Reservations are recommended but if you get there early when they open you can usually get a seat. Place is a bit pricey but worth it. The attached pictures shows the 'French Dinner' set.

A family owned small and cozy steak house that will take you to France with a chef mastering his dishes right in front of you. Lemon steak was really nice and came with soup, salad, rice, veggies, desert and a coffee to finish up the night. We had a wonderful time!

This place is so expensive I've only ever been once but by god is it delicious. We had the three (?) course meal that came with steak and dessert. I don't remember much other than how good it was and the price as I was about 12 at the time and that was 13 years ago.If you have the money, hit this place up. You will need reservations though because it's so popular.

Absolutely amazing quality food at an affordable price. You can get one of the cheaper steaks for 2500 yen which still includes; a salad, corn soup, rice, the steak, a dessert, and a nice cup of coffee at the end. It is rather popular so if you intend to seat more than 2 people I suggest you make a reservation.

I used to come here a lot with my family when I still lived in Sasebo. This is by far the best steak I've ever had in my entire life.

Phenomenal. Not a place that will be around forever. Literally the definition of what one would call a mom and pop restaurant. Everything that you are served is made with the utmost passion a dedication.
